The mountain rests on the earth: the image of splitting apart. Thus those above can ensure their position only by giving generously to those below.

The bed is split at the edge. Those who persevere are destroyed. Misfortune.
Erosion has reached the frame. Danger pressing closer; integrity has lost its base of support.

剥之，无咎。
He splits with them. No blame.
Mid-erosion, one figure refuses to join the rot — separates from the crowd of decay. No blame.

剥床以肤，凶。
The bed is split up to the skin. Misfortune.
Erosion has cut to the flesh; calamity touches the person directly.

贯鱼，以宫人宠，无不利。
A shoal of fishes. Favor comes through the court ladies. Everything acts to further.
The dark forces, guided rightly, file in like fish in order — converted from disorder to discipline.
Nine at the top · 上九
⚊ yang
硕果不食，君子得舆，小人剥庐。
There is a large fruit still uneaten. The superior person receives a carriage. The house of the inferior person is split apart.
The single remaining great fruit — the seed of renewal — must not be eaten. The wise gain a vehicle; the foolish lose even their shelter.
