Revolution. On your own day you are believed. Supreme success, furthering through perseverance. Remorse disappears.

Fire in the lake: the image of revolution. Thus the superior person sets the calendar in order and makes the seasons clear.

巩用黄牛之革。
Wrapped in the hide of a yellow cow.
Time is not yet ripe; bind yourself with central, sincere restraint (yellow ox-hide) — do not move.
Six in the second · 六二
⚋ yin
巳日乃革之，征吉，无咎。
When one's own day comes, one may create revolution. Starting brings good fortune. No blame.
On the appointed day (si ri), execute the change. Begin — fortune, no blame.
Nine in the third · 九三
⚊ yang
征凶，贞厉。革言三就，有孚。
Starting brings misfortune. Perseverance brings danger. When talk of revolution has gone round three times, one may commit oneself and people will believe.
Rash launch is misfortune. Only when the proposal has been deliberated three times (ge yan san jiu) and trust is built may one act.
Nine in the fourth · 九四

悔亡，有孚改命，吉。
Remorse disappears. People believe him. To change the form of government brings good fortune.
Trusted by all; with sincerity, change the mandate (gai ming) — fortune.
Nine in the fifth · 九五
⚊ yang
大人虎变，未占有孚。
The great person changes like a tiger. Even before he questions the oracle he is believed.
The great person transforms like a tiger renewing its coat (hu bian) — trust precedes proof.
Six at the top · 上六
⚋ yin
君子豹变，小人革面。征居贞吉。
The superior person changes like a panther. The inferior person molts in the face. Starting brings misfortune. To remain persevering brings good fortune.
Noble figures finish the change with elegant clarity (bao bian); the petty merely change their faces. Consolidate now; do not launch new offensives.

Wait for the day (si ri nai fu); deliberate thrice; then execute the tiger-change. After completion, consolidate — do not launch further.
