Modern Readings

— Interdisciplinary

Career & Management

Customer relations, soft conflict resolution, team building. Use praise, sharing, win-win framing — but ruthlessly prevent the formation of internal sycophant cliques (line 5).

Psychology & Cognition

Maintain optimism, transmit positive energy through high-quality listening and expression. Defeat the people-pleasing reflex (line 3: lai dui).

Decision Guidance

Sincere joy (line 1, 2) wins. Trusting the corrosive insiders (line 5) is disaster. Practice with friends (jiang xi) — the joy of paired learning.

Western Parallels

— Cross-cultural

Barbara Fredrickson's 'broaden and build' theory of positive emotion; Stephen Covey's 'win-win or no deal'; the dialogic philosophy of Mikhail Bakhtin; the ancient Aristotelian friendship of virtue versus friendship of utility/pleasure.
