利贞，亨。畜牝牛，吉。

The Clinging. Perseverance furthers. It brings success. Care of the cow brings good fortune.

明两作，离，大人以继明照于四方。

That which is bright rises twice: the image of fire. Thus the great person, by perpetuating this brightness, illuminates the four quarters of the world.

履错然，敬之无咎。
Confused footsteps. If one pays heed, no blame.
First steps are erratic; reverence and attention prevent fault.
Six in the second · 六二 ⚋ yin
黄离，元吉。
Yellow brightness. Sublime good fortune.
Brightness of the middle, golden balance — sublime.
Nine in the third · 九三 ⚊ yang
日昃之离，不鼓缶而歌，则大耋之嗟，凶。
In the light of the setting sun, men either beat the pot and sing or loudly bewail the approach of old age. Misfortune.
Light past its zenith; the wise sing on, the unwise lament. Failure to face the cycle's turn is misfortune.
Nine in the fourth · 九四 ⚊ yang
突如其来如，焚如，死如，弃如。
Its coming is sudden; it flames up, dies down, is thrown away.
An ungrounded conflagration — appears, blazes, vanishes, is discarded. Hype without substance.
Six in the fifth · 六五 ⚋ yin
出涕沱若，戚嗟若，吉。
Tears in floods, sighing and lamenting. Good fortune.
At the high seat, weeping in apprehension and care — converted by sorrow into fortune.
Nine at the top · 上九 ⚊ yang
王用出征，有嘉折首，获匪其丑，无咎。
The king uses him to march forth and chastise. Then it is best to kill the leaders and take captive the followers. No blame.
Use decisive force; kill the ringleader, spare the rank and file. Precision in justice.
